AFSA Financial Wellness Series Part 1:

Financial Planning Overview

COVID-19 has exposed the many vulnerabilities American families may face. The lack of a financial plan, or not feeling comfortable about their financial situation, was on the top of the list for many families when the economy practically shut down. The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of a financial “game plan" in the event of circumstances beyond our control.

Financial planning helps you to see the big picture. This session will provide an overview of the planning framework, including investment planning, tax planning, retirement planning, education planning, insurance planning and estate planning. In this session, you will gain an understanding as to why financial planning is important and how it can help you and your family.

AFSA Financial Wellness Series Part 2:

Risk Management

Risk management is not only for institutions or the super wealthy and their families. In fact, individuals and families who are not super wealthy or who can self-fund a catastrophic or unforeseen life-changing circumstance should make sure they address their risk exposure needs. Insurance, annuities and long-term care insurance are effective risk-management strategies used to help manage unforeseen or untimely risk. In this session, you will gain an understanding of how to protect your investments/retirement/pension assets, protect your health care needs, and transfer assets to a spouse and the next generation.

AFSA Financial Wellness Series Part 3:

Retirement Planning—Your Golden Years

Your golden years are closer than you think—or are you ready to enter them? Either way, your retirement planning considerations are an important aspect of your financial plan, including such questions as: Will my pension/retirement assets be enough for the retirement life I envisioned? Considering my projected Social Security payments, will my retirement income be enough or keep up with the rising cost of living, especially health care costs? What if I get ill or need home care nursing or to be placed in a nursing facility—what will happen to my lifelong savings, assets and income? Will any of my retirement assets be available for my spouse or the next generation? These are important questions we each have to answer. In this session, you will gain an understanding of how to address these critical questions as you plan on entering the golden years of your life.

AFSA Financial Wellness Series Part 4:

Tax Planning—Keeping More of Your Money

Tax planning is essential and plays an important role in any well-crafted financial plan. Whether you are just starting out in your career, in your peak earning years or considering retirement, each of these stages and beyond has a tax consequence related to it. In this session, participants learn how tax planning can help them effectively plan and manage their tax liability. The session covers personal income tax, Social Security/pension taxation, disability income, inheritance/gift tax, taxation of capital gains/losses, investment income, dividends and interest, as well as taxation of trust accounts. In this session, you will gain an understanding of how to address your tax planning questions.
